About Us

We are New Zealand wide Employment Law Specialists

call us, we're here to help with your employment problem

Work Law Ltd are a group of Employment Advocates who specialise in workplace legal issues.

Just like Employment Lawyers our Employment Advocates are All NZ Employment Law Specialists.  Our Advocates are either qualified legal professionals or human resources experts.  The difference is that we are able to provide our services on a No Win No Fee basis.   We strive to be the best Employment Advocates in NZ by holding ourselves to the highest standards possible.

What is an Employment Advocate?

We are legal and human resources experts who know employment law like the back of our hands. We can defend you in your workplace and all the way to the employment court if necessary.  Employment Advocates either hold law degrees or HR qualifications.  Our Advocates are ALL specialists in Employment Law, which means we are fully equipped to help with any Employment Relationship Problem you are facing.

Why do we do this?

Ask anyone on our team why they do this and they’ll tell you they love to help people.

We also enjoy the puzzle of working out all the facts and putting it back together in a logical and legal manner and standing up for the rights of people who are unable to stand up for themselves.

But Most Of All:  We get great satisfaction from turning around a client’s situation from being desperate, quite often in tears and unwell from stress to coming out the other end of it satisfied that they got a fair deal and can move on with their life and work and put it all behind them.

Who We Work For

We believe that everyone deserves access to justice.  This means if you can’t afford a lawyer but need support with a workplace issue we will do our best to help you.

We are a *No Win No Fee organisation.

This means that we will only charge a fee if we are successful in obtaining a financial settlement for you in addition to other terms of settlement, e.g. written apology and reference.

But sometimes we charge an hourly rate:

*Where we assist with disciplinary and other meetings that achieve non-financial settlement, such as job reinstatement, we charge an agreed hourly rate.  We will inform you before we start work if your work will be on a No Win No Fee basis or hourly rate.

How does it work?

When You Contact Us We will:

  • Assess your situation over the phone for free
  • Help you make a decision about pursuing the matter with your employer (or former employer).
  • Refer you to someone who can help you, either someone in our team will take your case and you will be put in touch with your assigned Advocate within 24 hours, or we may occasionally ask you to speak to your employer again or refer you to another service if we are not the right people to help.

Don’t Hesitate ..

You have 90 days from the date your employment problem occured (or the date you became aware of the employment problem) to lodge a personal grievance.

We stress the importance of consulting an advocate as soon as possible to allow sufficient preparation time to raise the personal grievance on your behalf. Contact us via our contact form, complete all your details and our consultant will assign your case to a qualified advocate.

We are also able to advise on recent developments in Employment Relations Act particularly the new 90 day trial period employment provisions.

What our clients are saying about us:

expertise and professionalism that I was ecstatic to find in an Employment Advocate
City: Auckland

I was very impressed by the excellent professional services provided by Work Law, particularly, Kam Bailey who took my case in Auckland while she is based in New Plymouth. She flew to Auckland to attend my mediation. Kam is caring, empathetic, and has in-depth experience in navigating the complexities of NZ Employment Law. She delivers on her promises, is a pillar of support during the most challenging aspects of the process and with her calm assurance, knowledge and tenacity, she helps ensure a positive and timely outcome. I cannot begin to thank her enough. She was always happy to help, willing to answer my numerous queries, alleviated my concerns and demonstrated an expertise and professionalism that I was ecstatic to find in an Employment Advocate. If in the unfortunate event I do need help in the Employment Law arena again I will call Kam from Work Law.

I couldn't have done it without you

Hi Sandy

Thanks very much for your fantastic help at mediation yesterday.

I want you to know that your support meant a lot to me. I couldn't have done it without you.

Best regards

Sue

I didn’t know about employment advocates
City: Auckland

Everyone said that I needed an employment lawyer but I couldn’t afford to. Then a community law person suggested I call Work Law and that they had heard really good things about them. I’m so happy I did. Thank you so much 🙏.

I was set up by my Employers, they had gone around the staff looking for anything to use to fire me. They made up to charges and I was emailed at 5:45pm on a Friday night that I was required to attended a meeting with their lawyer the following tue, and I could have Monday off to get ready for it! I was in shock, beside myself and confused. I contacted No Win No Fee first thing Monday morning and was made to feel more in control and listened too! They set me up with Ruth who was amazing! With her support and advice I was able to stand up for myself, and walk away with from such a terrible Work place with my head held high and some reimbursement for all the stress and trauma they infected on me!

I cannot recommend Work Law enough!

The whole experience with these guys deserves a 5 star review!! The first phone call, the way I was listened to, being referred to my Advocate (Sandy) and speaking to her within the hour. It was all 5 star worthy. The advice she gave me and the questions she asked to get to the bottom of the matter made everything clearer even to me as I was down a rabbit hole and couldn't figure out what was going on. Would highly recommend them. Turns out the whole situation was a blessing in disguise as I have come out if it with not just my pride in tact but with a great reference and some financial compensation. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Words can not express how grateful and appreciative I am to have had you through out the whole process.
City: Tauranga

A huge thank you to Ken for representing me. Words can not express how grateful and appreciative I am to have had you through out the whole process. Without you nothing would've been resolved and I'd still be in the same position I was in at the beginning.

I wish you all the best with your other clients & cases as I am sure they too will be grateful to have you represent them.

One day we may cross paths again but hopefully not in a mediation room, but as two civilians going about their day. =)

Keep doing an awesome job Ken, cheers, Kayla.

Quick and Efficient
City: Christchurch

I recently used Work Law for my employment case.

I found my Advocate to be very efficient and always handled issues very quickly and in my best interest.

He ensured I did not worry unnecessarily and always was very honest about any expectations.

He compiled any information when required in the provided timelines.

Thank you for representing me at mediation
City: Auckland

I would like to thank you for representing me at mediation. I know I could not have got through the mediation without you as it was a long and stressful time until I contacted you. You were very professional and showed me empathy through the process which helped to put me at ease. Once again a big thank you.
